Arsenal's attempts to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid appear to be diminishing because of club concerns about the cost of the deal.

The German reportedly wants £150,000 a week, which would make him the highest earner at the Emirates ahead of Mesut Ozil and new signing Alexis Sanchez, and his transfer fee would be in the region of £20 million.

Arsenal have started to flex their financial muscles in the transfer market with the club's transfer fee broken last summer when Mesut Ozil was signed for £42.5m and Alexis Sanchez newly bought for a fee of around £30m. The £11million arrival of defender Mathieu Debuchy should also be confirmed this week.

However, after years of a cautious, frugal approach at the Emirates both the Daily Mail and The Mirror claim there is concern at the club about whether the overall cost of signing Khedira, 27, represents good value.

Arsenal are said to be close to signing Atletico Madrid's defender Javi Manquillo Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina as a potential replacement for Lukasz Fabianski - who left Arsenal after seven seasons to join Swansea - and Arsene Wenger may decide to switch his attention for a defensive midfield away from Khedira.
