Liverpool agree £8m fee for QPR's Remy

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of striker Loic Remy in the next few days after agreeing an £8 million fee with Queens Park Rangers.

Remy will become Liverpool's fifth signing of the summer if he agrees personal terms and passes a medical, sources have told ESPN.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that the deal will be concluded quickly and that the forward will be able to join Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States, which begins with a match against Roma in Boston on Wednesday.

Agreeing a deal with QPR, who were promoted to the Premier League in May after a season in the Championship, was made easier by the fact that Remy had a release clause in his contract. Remy, 27, spent last season on loan at Newcastle, scoring 14 goals in 26 Premier League appearances.

Remy made two substitute appearances for France at the World Cup, in the 0-0 Group E draw against Ecuador and the 1-0 quarter-final defeat against Germany.

Rodgers has so far spent around £57m on four players, bringing in England internationals Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton, Germany under-21 midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen and Serbian winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica.

Can limped off after 20 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 friendly victory at League One side Preston with a calf problem. But Rodgers told BT Sport: "It was just a precaution. He felt a tightness in his calf. He hasn't pulled anything. But there was no point in taking a risk."
