ESPN FC: Fernando Torres the right fit for Atletico Madrid?

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is prepared for one of Petr Cech or Thibaut Courtois to be unhappy as he considers his goalkeeping options for next season.

Mourinho has decided to retain the services of Courtois, 22, after the Belgium international spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, winning the Liga title with the club last campaign.

Cech, meanwhile, has been the Blues' No.1 since joining the side from Rennes in 2004, going on to make 326 Premier League appearances.

'Average Costa saved by nasty streak'

  • Chelsea's new £32 million striker Diego Costa is an "average player" if you take away his "nastiness and aggression", according to a former key member of the club's backroom staff.

Mourinho must now choose between the duo going into the 2014-15 season, and the Portuguese is delighted to have two such highly rated shot-stoppers at his disposal.

"My situation for the season is fantastic," he told The Guardian. "To have Cech and Courtois, the best young goalkeeper in the world and one of the top three or five experienced keepers, for me and Chelsea it's perfect.

"There's no story. One will play and Chelsea will be in safe hands for good because both are very good players. One won't be happy. But the Chelsea supporters will be happy and they're more important than the players."

Cech played in Chelsea's pre-season 1-1 draw with WAC RZ Pellets on Wednesday.
