Lampard completes New York City FC move

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has completed his move to MLS side New York City FC.

Lampard, whose 13-year stay at Stamford Bridge came to an end this summer, was officially unveiled at a press conference today having reportedly agreed terms last month.

"I want to carry on challenging myself. I want to be that leader on and off the pitch," Lampard said.

"I've been watching games in the MLS for a long time back home. It's a great opportunity and a great challenge for me.

"I'd love to make the fans see that I will give everything. We want to bring a team here that you can be really proud of. I will fight to make New York City FC a club that New Yorkers will be proud of.

"I'm very much looking forward to playing in Yankee Stadium. I played there in a friendly before and I was overwhelmed by the quality."

Lampard is Chelsea's all-time leading scorer with 211 goals and won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one Champions League, one Europa League as well as two League Cups in his time at the club.

"Chelsea will always have a huge part in my heart. I wish Chelsea the best."

He will reportedly earn £90,000-a-week with the newly-formed MLS franchise, where he joins former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid forward David Villa.

The 36-year-old also hinted he could follow Steven Gerrard into international retirement. "Now I know where I'm playing I need to think about my England future," said Lampard, who has 106 caps for his country.
