Vidic tells Inter to sign Hernandez

Nemanja Vidic has advised new club Inter Milan to make a move for his former Manchester United team-mate Javier Hernandez.

Inter are keen to add to their attacking options after shoring up their defence with the capture of Vidic from United earlier this year.

The Serie A club have been linked with moves for Chelsea's Fernando Torres and Manchester City's Edin Dzeko, but Vidic is convinced Hernandez would be the ideal choice for his new employers.

"Chicharito has done some great things and scored decisive goals for Manchester United, in particular under Sir Alex Ferguson," Vidic told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "He is a very strong striker, a traditional No.9 who has an eye for goal.

"But in the end it's [sporting director] Piero Ausilio's decision and he knows what he's doing."

Hernandez joined United from Guadalajara in the summer of 2010 and has since made over 100 Premier League appearances for the club. His contract with United is due to expire in the summer of 2016.

Although he has been advocating a raid on his old club, Vidic has admitted it will be a "strange feeling" when he faces United on Tuesday night.

The defender joined Inter Milan on a free transfer this summer and one of his first appearances for the club sees him come up against his former side, with whom he spent the past eight and a half seasons, at Washington Redskins' FedEx Field stadium.

"It may only be a friendly and there won't be too much pressure, but it will be a strange feeling playing against my past," Vidic said.

"I'm going to see plenty of friends, many of whom I've been in touch with all summer via text. I grew up there in every aspect. Manchester United have become the most famous club in the world."

Vidic made a total of 300 appearances for United, but he insists he has no regrets about leaving, not even now Louis van Gaal has taken over as coach.

"There's no point dwelling on the past. It took me just one day to decide [to join Inter] and I'm convinced I made the right choice," added Vidic, 32, who now has high hopes with Inter in Serie A.

"We know it's not going to be easy because we're in a period of transition, but our objectives are to perform better than last season and qualify for the Champions League. We did well against Real [1-1 draw, Inter won on penalties] on Friday and even if it wasn't the true Real, that has given us confidence."
