Brondby pushing to sign Agger

Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen says the Danish club will do all they can to being defender Daniel Agger back from Liverpool.

The Denmark international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, left his homeland when he moved to Anfield from Andersen's club in January 2006.

£100m but still no match winner

But the arrival of fellow left-sided centre-back Dejan Lovren from Southampton has cast serious doubt over Agger's long-term Liverpool future.

"We will work really, really hard to secure Daniel but as he has said himself, the timing has to be right," Andersen told Danish website 3point.dk.

"So let us hope we can tie up the loose ends. When that is, time will tell but we will go a long way to get him back because it will show just how high we have set the bar. It will show that we have ambitions and will make a lot of fans happy."

Asked if a deal might happen this summer, Andersen said: "We will do everything in our power but it is clear that we also need to be responsible and we need to do what is right at the right time.

"But to answer the question, yes, we will do everything that we can, if and when the possibility arises, and see if we can tie up the loose ends."

Agger, 29, sought to play down reports of his imminent departure last month but admitted that he would be interested in returning to Brondby at some stage in his career.
