Palace re-sign Johnson on free transfer
Crystal Palace have confirmed that former striker Andrew Johnson has rejoined the club on a free transfer.
Johnson, 33, was a free agent following his release from Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season and has signed a short-term contract at Selhurst Park, where he will also assist Palace by taking on a coaching role.
Neil Warnock has enlisted Johnson in his 25-man Premier League squad until January and the striker hopes to repay the faith shown in him by the newly-appointed Palace manager.
"I am delighted to be coming back to a club that I love and have a real soft spot for. I would like to thank the gaffer and the chairman for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping this football club have continued success in the Premier League," he told the club's official website.
"I have also been given an opportunity to help the youngsters in a coaching capacity, something I am really looking forward to getting involved in."
Johnson is recognised as a cult hero at Selhurst Park after scoring 85 goals in 160 games for the club between 2002 and 2006, coinciding with Palace's promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2003-04 campaign.
He scored 21 goals in his first season in the Premier League in 2004-05, finishing behind only Thierry Henry in the scoring charts as he was inducted into the PFA Team of the Year, despite Palace's relegation.
The former Birmingham City, Everton and Fulham striker, who has eight England caps, could make his second Palace debut against Burnley a week on Saturday where he will be targeting his 150th goal in club football.
