Di Maria: Van Gaal incentive behind Old Trafford move

Javier Hernandez says he was relieved to leave Manchester United last month after claiming the Old Trafford club lost faith in his abilities.

Mexico striker Hernandez sealed a season-long loan to Real Madrid in the final days of the summer transfer window and believes he was not given a chance to prove his worth during the latter stages of his time at United.

"There was no confidence. I remained patient and that's why I'm here today. It was a very tough year especially because they didn't believe in me," he told Claro Sports.

Hernandez may have been frustrated not to play consistently for United under David Moyes last season, and even though he is likely to be used as an impact player from the bench in a Real Madrid team with plenty of attacking talent, he seems content with his prospects in the Spanish capital.

Hernandez reiterated the impact he can make when coming off the substitutes' bench after scoring twice in his side's emphatic 8-2 win over Deportivo.

Hernandez replaced Gareth Bale in the 77th minute to score in the 88th minute and in injury time as Carlo Ancelotti's men hammered their La Liga opponents.

The Mexico international has now scored 16 goals as a substitute in the last five seasons.

Hernandez's first goal was an outstanding strike with his left foot that whistled into the top corner, while the second was a deflected effort.

"I really want to make the most of my time here," he added. "Any footballer dreams about joining Real Madrid. I know I'm here for a reason. The statistics support me, I'm a good player and a good person.

"I had the chance to meet [Carlo] Ancelotti when he was Chelsea coach. The faith he has in his players motivates me and makes me work hard."
