Zabaleta received a second yellow card after a tackle on Costa, before the Spaniard reacted by leaping to his feet and confronting his opponent.
Costa appeared to briefly put his hands around Zabaleta's neck, and the defender took to Twitter to point out as such.
After posting a tweet that read "I would like to apologise to everyone for my red card today", he added:

The visitors took the lead through Andre Schuerrle shortly after the Zabaleta's red card, before Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, on loan from new MLS franchise New York City, came on to score the equaliser against his old side.
