Aaron Ramsey's latest muscle injury may keep him out for as long as six weeks, Arsenal sources told ESPN.

Although Arsene Wenger initially said the absence would be no more than three to four weeks, that appraisal is said to be on the optimistic side.

The club's injury record has come under huge scrutiny over the past week, as the midfielder's thigh injury in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday brought their list of absences to nine.

Club captain Mikel Arteta also limped off in the north London derby, while Arsenal are without defensive duo Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal following their injuries earlier this month.

Theo Walcott is still recovering from a serious knee injury and last season's leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud is out until January with a foot problem.

Aafter the draw with Tottenham, Wenger could not hide his frustration over how Ramsey could have picked up the muscle problem, having rested him against Southampton in the League Cup and given him a "light" week of training.

The sense of confusion does not appear to have eased and Wenger admitted the club were still investigating Ramsey's injury.

"We are getting things together, getting a report on all the different opinions - what happened to him, because it's a real concern," Wenger said.

It has also been noted by relevant figures around the club that Ramsey's injury was his left thigh, physically close to the left hamstring problem that kept him out for up to three months last season.
