Suarez: Happy I can help the team

Luis Suarez has accused the English media of "making a mountain out of a molehill" over claims he may have attempted to bite Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis.

The former Liverpool player, who has been suspended three times in his career for biting opponents, scored twice as Barcelona beat City 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

The claims were made when footage emerged of Demichelis pushing out an arm to fend off Suarez, who then appeared to move his mouth towards the arm, though further film, taken from a different angle, appeared to show Suarez had done nothing wrong.

"He put his hand on my throat," Suarez told Uruguayan radio station Sport890. "I do not understand why they [the English media] want to do this. They want to make trouble, a mountain out of a molehill.

"They must be hurt after what I did to them in the World Cup [scoring twice for Uruguay against England], but they forget that I played in England and they should show me some respect."

Suarez was praised by Demichelis after Barcelona's first-leg victory, with the City man saying: "Luis has already proved throughout his career what type of player he is and the quality he has.

"Football is like that. Several days prior to the game, all the emphasis is placed on Messi and Neymar but the one who ends up scoring two goals is Luis Suarez.

"Barcelona have great players, and any of them can make a difference."
