Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has revealed that he saw Antonio Valencia's bone sticking out of his leg after the Manchester United winger's horror injury occurred.

Valencia suffered a double fracture to his left ankle after apparently getting his foot caught in the turf, with Broadfoot in close proximity, during the 0-0 Champions League draw at Old Trafford.

The Scotland defender was visibly distressed after witnessing the incident at first hand, and was one of the first players to call for urgent medical assistance from the touchline.

Sir Alex Ferguson now fears that Valencia, a crucial member of the first team, may be forced to miss the rest of the season - and Broadfoot's report on the injury will do nothing to relieve his concerns.

"I just remember sliding in, getting up and looking round to see his bone sticking out," Broadfoot said of the challenge. "It's not nice to see a fellow professional like that and I hope he has a fast recovery. He is a top quality player and I want to see him week in, week out again. Hopefully he can get well soon."
