Stoke City boss Tony Pulis does not expect Eidur Gudjohnsen, who he is accusing of being overweight, to reach full fitness before Christmas.

The Icelandic striker, formerly of Barcelona and Chelsea, was expected to make a big impact when he joined the Potters in August - but he has struggled to make his mark.

Gudjohnsen, who took no part in pre-season at Stoke, has appeared a mere four times in the Premier League this season.

"His weight is still up on what it needs to be," Pulis told the Sun. "Hopefully, sometime in December we should have him up and running. The pace of the Premier League now dictates you have to be 100%.

"He's good to have around the place and [has] shown glimpses of what a player he is. But he's not up to the level we want."
