Eidur Gudjohnsen has taken a swipe at Tony Pulis' style of play after ending a "difficult" spell at Stoke by moving on loan to Fulham.

The Iceland striker has endured a difficult spell since arriving at the Britannia in August, making just four substitute appearances after being accused by Pulis of failing to reach acceptable fitness levels.

Now his association with Stoke is drawing to a close, with a one-year deal unlikely to be renewed, he has insisted that the Potters' direct style of play did not suit his game. The 32-year-old, who has enjoyed spells with Barcelona and Chelsea, is not renowned for his physical style of play.

"A mixture of things [explain why it didn't work out at Stoke] - nothing I want to go into too deeply, but first and foremost I think style of play was the biggest factor," he told Sky Sports News.

"Just maybe slightly different views on the way football is played between me and the way Stoke play. I didn't really adapt to it, and didn't get the chance to adapt to it because I didn't start any games. It was a difficult time."
