Carlo Ancelotti is optimistic Frank Lampard will be fit for Chelsea's game against Tottenham next weekend.

The midfielder has not played since August after undergoing a hernia operation, and was initially only ruled out for two weeks.

However, a catalogue of subsequent injuries have kept him on the sidelines, but Ancelotti is confident Lampard will be back in the squad for their trip to White Hart Lane on December 12.

"Lampard could maybe be back next week," Ancelotti said. "It will be important for him to be involved in the game against Tottenham."

Ancelotti has been boosted by the fitness of skipper John Terry for Chelsea's home clash against Everton on Saturday, while Michael Essien returns from suspension, but the Italian confirmed that Yuri Zhirkov would be unavailable.
