Brian Kidd refused to confirm that Manchester City were in the market for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, but admitted the club were likely to spend in the January transfer window.

Reports in Germany suggested City were closing in on a £30 million deal, but the City assistant refused to be drawn on discussing any potential targets.

"At the moment it is just speculation," Kidd said. "There is only one man who decides that, and that's the boss. I don't think it's right to speak about other players at other clubs."

Although Kidd admitted City were likely to look to bolster their squad in January, the former United assistant claimed that Mancini's squad, though far from the finished article, was the strongest in the Premier League.

"[Mancini] demands that we work hard and we look to improve, but we obviously know we are not the finished article, even though we are going quite well," he said. "The boss won't rest on his laurels to think things are going OK because he wants to be a winner. I think the club will explore every option and every avenue.

"It's about getting the right players, what positions are we looking for? The boss will decide that. If he feels he can improve the squad, if there is a player available, then I think he will explore that.

"But the lads have done very well, the players have done terrific. I wouldn't swap our squad now for anybody in the Premier League, to be honest. I wouldn't swap any of our lads for anybody else in the top four or five in the league."
