Manchester City are bidding to get the red card picked up by Pablo Zabaleta in Wednesday's draw with Arsenal overturned after launching an official appeal with the FA.

Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna were both dismissed following a second-half altercation, which saw the opposing duo clash heads. Arsenal and City eventually settled for a 0-0 draw.

"Manchester City's Pablo Zabaleta has submitted a claim for wrongful dismissal," read the statement on the official FA website.

"Zabaleta was shown a red card during City's match against Arsenal on January 5. A Regulatory Commission will hear the claim on Friday 7 January."

However, Arsenal will not appeal against the card shown to Sagna.

"I have seen it again and there is no way we can appeal," Wenger told the club's official website. "For me it is a red card and we have to accept it. Bacary lost his temper and had too strong a reaction. He acknowledges that he should have kept control. We will not appeal."
