Fulham manager Mark Hughes is interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, but believes Emmanuel Adebayor is out of the club's price range.

On Thursday, City manager Roberto Mancini acknowledged that Wright-Phillips is free to leave the club, with Birmingham City among a number of teams strongly linked with the 29-year-old. Hughes brought Wright-Phillips back to City in 2008 during his time as the club's manager, and is interested in the possibility of working with the player once again.

Adebayor is also believed to be available - depending on the severity of Mario Balotelli's recent injury - but Hughes believes the sums involved rule out any bid for the Togolese striker.

"Shaun's a player I've worked with, a player I know," Hughes said. "Manu is a guy who I like as a person. As a player, he did well for me. But that doesn't mean we're in a position to bring him here."

Fulham are looking to be active in the January transfer window, as they look to improve their position in the Premier League table. The Cottagers currently lie 14th, just a point above the relegation zone. One player who has already been signed is midfielder Steve Sidwell, and Hughes is confident the former Aston Villa man will resurrect his career at Craven Cottage.

"Things haven't worked out for him over the last few years but Steve wants to get his career back on track," Hughes said. "He told me he wants to play, not just pick up money for not playing. He just needs the right vehicle and feels we're that club. I feel that as well."
