Pienaar completes Tottenham move

Tottenham have bolstered their midfield ranks with the signing of Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar, who has agreed a four-and-a-half-yeal deal at the club.

The South Africa international opted to join Spurs over Chelsea after both clubs had bids in the region of £3 million accepted by the Toffees.

Earlier in the day, Pienaar confirmed the move on Twitter: "To end speculation I am going to Spurs," he said. "I've had brilliant years at Everton and it will always be a special place in my heart."

Although Everton were reluctant to sell Pienaar, they faced the prospect of losing him for nothing in the summer after failing to agree a new contract with the midfielder.
