Ajax still waiting on 'respectful' bid for £25m Suarez

Ajax have told Liverpool to be "more respectful" in their bid to sign star striker Luis Suarez.

The Premier League club have been in prolonged negotiations with the Dutch side over the possible purchase of the Uruguayan forward this month, with director of football strategy Damien Comolli recently travelling to Amsterdam to try and iron out a deal.

But the two clubs are still believed to be far apart in their valuation of the 24-year-old - with time running out to agree a transfer - and Ajax have now told the Premier League club to get realistic with their offer or to look elsewhere.

"We'll have to wait for them [Liverpool] to come back with something more respectful," an Ajax spokesman said. "We want to keep him - at least until the end of the season and preferably for the rest of his contract. If you compare the €15 million (£12.5m) Liverpool want to pay for Suarez with other transfers you can imagine that it's far too low for us. Luis is our top goalscorer for the last three years and also the man with by far the most assists."

Ajax general director Rik van den Boog reportedly told Comolli on Monday that he would not even consider any offer of less than £25m for the versatile striker.

Comolli has also found his methods questioned by Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, who is unhappy with the Merseyside club's pursuit of Charlie Adam.

"He ummed and aahed and apparently did not make much sense," Holloway said, when asked about negotiations between the clubs. "We need to be compensated correctly in this matter and at the moment Liverpool are simply not offering anything like enough."

Holloway said the Reds would need to quadruple their current £4m offer for the Scottish playmaker if they hoped to secure his signature.
