Liverpool new boy Luis Suarez has expressed his delight at completing his move to the Premier League club.

Suarez completed his transfer from Ajax in a £22.5 million deal on transfer deadline day, and the prolific Uruguayan striker is expected to make his debut at home to Stoke City on Wednesday night with the Reds' other new signing, Andy Carroll, out injured for a few weeks.

Suarez, who scored 64 goals in 76 Eredivisie starts for the Amsterdam club, said: "My ambitions for the future are to do my very best for Liverpool, to try to learn more about English football and to become a champion.

"I am very happy to be here. For me this is the most important club not just in England but the whole world.'

"My aim is to work hard and to show the fans how hard I am ready to work. I will put in a lot of effort to help show the supporters my capabilities.

"Right now I want to play as many games as I can and help the team move up the table."

The striker wants to help the club live up to its vaunted traditions.

"Liverpool is the most famous club in England," he added.

"I watched English football as a boy, and I watched Liverpool - they are the greatest in England."
