Liverpool didn't show Adam enough respect - Holloway
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has accused Liverpool of showing a lack of respect to Charlie Adam in their bid to sign the midfielder on January 31.
The Reds contributed heavily to a dramatic deadline day, bringing in Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez for a combined fee of close to £60 million and losing Fernando Torres to Chelsea.
They also made an attempt to sign Adam, but their approaches were repelled because they failed to match Blackpool's valuation of the player. Adam's agent Kenny Moyes, brother of Everton manager David, has suggested that the Tangerines were deliberately vague over what represented a desirable amount.
Holloway has deflected attention away from this claim by suggesting that Liverpool treated Adam as their third choice, behind Suarez and Carroll, as the transfer window entered its final hours.
"The boy will go to a top club eventually but he has to go on the right footing where they really want him," he said. "To be perfectly honest I didn't feel that was the case.
"Charlie is someone I care about immensely, and I believe he's a great professional who should walk into a club when they really want him. He shouldn't be third choice. They shouldn't be doing other deals - Suarez and Carroll - and putting their energy into that with nothing for Charlie. And why's he's sat in my office all day I don't know."
