Rodwell eyeing early return

Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell is hoping to return to action sooner than expected after being initially ruled out for six weeks earlier this month.
The 19-year-old revealed on Twitter two weeks ago that he had been ruled out for between four and six weeks with a groin injury picked up while on England U21 duty, but now hopes to be back in action by March as he receives attention at Goodison Park.
"The medical staff here are really good," Rodwell said. "I have full faith in them and hopefully I can shave off a few weeks.
"My last injury I was told it would be three months but I was back in two, maybe even less."
After watching from the sidelines as his team-mates knocked Chelsea out of the FA Cup on Saturday, Rodwell believes David Moyes' side are entering a crucial phase of the season - starting against Steve Bruce's Sunderland in the Premier League at the weekend - that still holds much to aim for.
"Sunderland is a massive game for us," he said. "We need to pick up as many points as we can - especially at home.
"There is still so much to play for. We are still in the cup and if we had beaten Bolton last week we would have gone eighth and been just outside the European places.
"The league is still tight and the places are there for the taking."
