Gallas cleared of serious hamstring injury

Tottenham have been boosted by the news that a hamstring injury suffered by William Gallas in training on Tuesday is not serious.

Gallas, who has been a solid performer since his move across North London from Arsenal last summer, was feared to be facing a month out after pulling up with a hamstring problem. However, Spurs revealed that he could be ready to play again as early as this weekend.

''A scan this afternoon (Wednesday) has reported that William Gallas has not suffered a fresh hamstring injury,'' read a statement on the club's official site. ''The France defender had pulled up in training yesterday concerned about his hamstring.

''He will now be assessed over the coming days to determine his availability for this weekend's home Premier League fixture against West Ham United.''

Spurs already have defensive problems, as midfielder Wilson Palacios is out for a month after undergoing knee surgery.

Gareth Bale was also said to have suffered discomfort in his thigh as he struggles to return to full fitness, though he is not thought to be a doubt for Saturday's visit of West Ham United.

Spurs are currently also without Jonathan Woodgate and Tom Huddlestone.
