John Terry will not captain England in their clash with Ghana after he was named as one of six players released back to their clubs ahead of the Tuesday friendly at Wembley.

Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole are also heading back to Stamford Bridge, while Wayne Rooney will return to Manchester United and Michael Dawson goes back to Tottenham Hotspur.

In addition, Aston Villa full-back Kyle Walker has been ruled out by a groin injury.

Having given the armband back to Terry after stressing the need for a permanent captain, Capello must find a new candidate for England's first international with Ghana.

Gareth Barry, who was dropped from the team to face Wales, will be the favourite after wearing the armband for a spell during last month's friendly in Denmark.
