Tottenham's luck ran out in Madrid - Redknapp

Harry Redknapp admits Tottenham ran out of luck when their Champions League hopes were severely dented with a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Real Madrid.

With Spurs already a goal down, Peter Crouch was sent off for a second yellow card after 15 minutes, and although the visitors defended resolutely for the best part of an hour, they eventually succumbed 4-0, with former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor scoring the opening two goals.

Redknapp was forced into making a last-minute change when Aaron Lennon fell ill shortly before kick-off, and with Crouch's dismissal after 15 minutes, Redknapp admitted little went Spurs' way.

"We lost Aaron Lennon a minute before kick-off, just as we walked out onto the pitch he said he didn't feel well, he said he had no energy, no strength in him, so I had to make a change as we were leaving the dressing room," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"And then obviously to go a goal down and have Crouchy sent off; I thought first half we did ever so well, we had a couple of good chances. But in the end it's difficult to come here with 11 men, let alone ten men for almost 80 minutes."
