Paul di Resta described the third day of the first Barcelona test as "an intense day" after losing some time in the morning session.

Di Resta caused a red flag about 90 minutes before lunch when part of the engine cover fell off the VJM05. As a result he was only able to cover 20 laps on his first morning in the car at Barcelona, and had to try and recover time throughout the rest of the day.

The afternoon was much more productive for Force India as di Resta covered a futher 63 laps. He admitted that it had been hard work getting through the complete programme but said he was pleased that the car was good enough to allow the team to make progress.

"Quite an intense day and a very busy afternoon, but the main thing is that we achieved the objectives for the day," di Resta said. "There will be a lot of analysing tonight to see what we can learn, especially trying to understand the data from the long runs this afternoon. Once we've been through the numbers, it should give us a direction for tomorrow.

"As I said in Jerez, it's nice to have a car with such a good baseline because it makes it easier to experiment with the set-up and that's what we're trying to do at the moment."
