2009 Renault race driver Romain Grosjean is set to return to the GP2 Series with DAMS at the German Grand Prix.

Grosjean debuted for the French F1 team last year in the wake of Nelson Piquet Jr's ousting, but was replaced by Russian rookie Vitaly Petrov for 2010. Grosjean, now racing in the new GT1 series as well as AutoGP, has been appointed to the DAMS GP2 team by Gravity, the management company headed by Renault's new F1 team owners Genii Capital.

He replaces Jerome d'Ambrosio, one of Renault's F1 reserve drivers in 2010, but the Belgian will be back in the car in Hungary.

Gravity said the decision is to "analyse the reasons why the d'Ambrosio/DAMS pairing has been unable to fully unlock its potential so far this season".

"I'm happy to be back on the GP2 Series grid again," Grosjean said. "It's a very hotly-contested championship in which I was aiming for the title when I was recruited for Formula One.

"As always, I can't wait to get out there on the track again and try to score the best possible result, and also to help the team solve the performance problems they've encountered this season. I think that is the biggest motivation for all three of us - Jerome, Ho-Pin [Tung], myself - and I'm sure we can do a good job."
