Hilmer Motorsport has been granted entry to the 2013 GP2 season as a replacement for Ocean Racing Technology.
The team is run by Franz Hilmer, who owns Formtech GmbH which supplies several teams on the Formula One grid. The team replaces Ocean Racing Technology which has had to leave GP2 and GP3 due to financial difficulties, and Hilmer admitted that he now faces a race against time to get the team fully operational by the first test on February 27.
"We are delighted that Hilmer Motorsport will participate to the prestigious GP2 Series," Hilmer said. "I would like to thank (GP2 CEO) Bruno Michel for his support. We are currently working on putting together a strong team of highly experienced professionals in order to be ready for the first challenge of the season."
Michel added that he was pleased to add a German outfit to the 13-team strong GP2 field.
"I am pleased to welcome Hilmer Motorsport to our category," Michel said. "It is the first time since the Series' inception that we will have a German team in our field. They are already hard at work to be ready and competitive from the first pre-season test session next month in Jerez. I am sure that they will be a great addition to our grid."
