Biarritz avenged their shock defeat on Italian soil by defeating a gutsy Benetton Treviso 29-12 at Parc des Sports Aguilera on Friday night, keeping alive their hopes of making the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

Tries in the final 10 minutes from forwards Wenceslas Lauret and Arnaud Heguy took Biarritz to an ultimately comfortable win, although they played against 14 men for the majority of the game, which was contested in miserable conditions.

The visitors were a man down from the 24th minute when flanker Francesco Minto was shown a red card for dangerous play at a ruck, with his team leading 6-0 through two Kris Burton penalties.

Burton split the posts twice more before Julien Peyrelongue cut the deficit to 12-3 at the interval, but Iain Balshaw's 44th-minute try from a Damien Traille kick brought Biarritz back into contention.

Replacement Dane Haylett-Petty crossed to put the French side ahead for the first time at 15-12 and flanker Lauret and hooker Heguy helped them to a bonus point victory with late efforts.
