Flemenstar cemented his position as the leading novice chaser in Ireland with a silk-smooth success in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse.

Trainer Peter Casey elected to swerve the Cheltenham Festival and his decision was vindicated as his seven-year-old justified favouritism in the Grade One contest in the style of a top-notch performer.

Andrew Lynch elected to track the pace set by market rival Rathlin and, mirroring the efforts that carried him to four successive wins coming into the race, Flemenstar jumped impeccably.

Flemenstar kept tabs on the leader down the back straight before joining issue at the third from the finish. A fast, accurate leap took Flemenstar to the front and he quickly put daylight between himself and his rivals.

A spectacular leap at the second last took him 10 lengths clear and he sprinted away, before sailing over the final fence.

Lynch was able to ease the 11/10 favourite over the line, but he still had 11 lengths in hand over Rathlin at the line.
