JT McNamara has undergone surgery after suffering a serious neck injury in a fall from Galaxy Rock in Thursday's 4.40pm Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Chase at Cheltenham.

The Irishman was put into a medically-induced coma by on-course medics before being airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

McNamara's condition has reportedly not changed, but Irish Turf Club chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick has confirmed the 37-year old amateur rider suffered damaged vertebrae.

"We can confirm that amateur rider J T McNamara suffered two fractured vertebrae in his neck yesterday," he said.

"He is currently in theatre in Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. There will be no further news until tomorrow and we will keep everyone informed, His wife Caroline is with him."
