The Queen was denied a first win at the Epsom Derby by Pour Moi (4/1), who triumphed by a head from Treasure Beach (25/1) in a thrilling finish.

Pre-race favourite Carlton House (5/2), Her Majesty's colt, was well in contention with two furlongs to go before being pushed into third in the final reckoning, finishing three-quarters of a length behind Treasure Beach.

The winning jockey, Mickael Barzalona, began celebrating short of the finish line, but his premature decision to stand up in the saddle did not stop his charge powering to the win.

Early leader Memphis Tennessee held a six-length advantage as they made the descent to Tattenham Corner, where Ryan Moore was pushed wide on Carlton House.

Treasure Beach eventually hit the lead, with Carlton House not far behind - and Recital and Native Khan still very much alive.

But it was Pour Moi, Andre Fabre's Prix Greffulhe winner, who showed devastating pace to come round the outside and clinch a dramatic win ahead of Treasure Beach.

Recital, with Pat Smullen on board after Kieren Fallon was denied the chance to compete by a High Court injunction, came in sixth, one place behind Native Khan.

"The plan was to stay from behind, the horse is good at coming from behind," Barzalona said. "[The stand up in the saddle] was a feeling, I don't know why I did it - it just happened."
