Maldonado set for ten-place engine penalty
Pastor Maldonado will become the second driver to receive a ten-place engine penalty in 2014 after using a sixth engine component at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Lotus has installed a new internal combustion engine (ICE) in Maldonado's car, one of the six components of this year's engines. Each driver is allowed five of each component before incurring a penalty; Maldonado's ICE is the sixth used this season.
As it is the first time he had used a sixth component, Maldonado will receive a ten-place grid penalty at Suzuka - which can be carried over if the Venezuelan qualifies within ten places of the back of the grid on Saturday. Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat became the first driver to suffer a grid penalty at the Italian Grand Prix.
