Race almost certain to go ahead

The inaugural Korean Grand Prix will almost certainly go ahead as planned subject to a final inspection by the FIA's Charlie Whiting on Monday and Tuesday.

KAVO spokesman Kim Jae-Ho told AFP that Whiting was pleased with what he had seen at the circuit on Monday.

"Whiting, going on foot, has been checking every corner of the track," said Kim. "So far we have received positive remarks from him, and we are confident that the track will pass the inspection which focused on its safety and appropriateness."

According to Spain's AS newspaper, Whiting's inspection is a mere formality and the country's leading FIA official has confirmed the race will go ahead.

"The race is going ahead. This has been confirmed at Suzuka to the president of the Real Federacion Espanola de Automovilismo, Carlos Gracia," said the report.

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner also said on Sunday said he is certain the race will take place.

"We know it is going to take place," Horner told Germany's Sky television. "It's interesting because it's new for everybody. We're looking forward to it. The long straights don't really suit us, but our car should work well on the twisty parts."
