Grosjean says mistakes will help him improve

Romain Grosjean says that he will be able to improve as a driver in 2013 as he learns from the mistakes he made this year.

Grosjean has been involved in a number of incidents during his first full season in the sport, gaining a reputation due to the number of clashes he was involved in during the opening laps of races. The most serious error came in Belgium where he was handed a one-race ban for causing a collision at the start which resulted in his own car flying very close to Fernando Alonso's head.

However, speaking to the Race of Champions podcast, Grosjean said that there had been plenty of high points too but that he needs to ensure there is no repeat of the errors he's made this year.

"It was a good year coming back to Formula One, having three podiums, eighth in the standings of the championship ... I think it was pretty interesting," Grosjean said. "When there is the statistics at the start of the weekend and you see you have one fastest lap, three podiums, 96 points and stuff like that if you had told me that one year ago at the Race of Champions I wouldn't have believed it.

"But there it is and I think it's a good year in that way, in that respect, we did some fantastic results; a little too many mistakes as well which are the shadow of the year but it helps me to improve myself during the winter, trying to analyse it and keep the speed that we showed and go for the results that we deserve and that we need to score the points for the team - and for myself - for the championship."

Grosjean's 2013 future has yet to be announced, with Lotus so far only confirming Kimi Raikkonen as one of its race drivers for next season.
