Glock departure secures Marussia's future

Marussia sporting director Graeme Lowdon says the departure of Timo Glock is the type of decision that is required to safeguard the team's future.

Glock left Marussia last week by mutual consent despite having a contract through until the end of 2014, with team principal John Booth admitting that the move was driven by "tough economic conditions". With a pay driver expected to replace Glock in order to increase the team's income, Lowdon emphasised the importance of the change.

"It is difficult decisions like this that secure the future of the team," Lowdon told Autosport. "Everyone at Banbury has worked really hard for quite some time now on the 2013 car and we think it is going to be a big step forward."

Lowdon also said that the enthusiasm and atmosphere within the team remained positive despite Glock's departure.

"Everyone is still pretty excited about the coming season. The key thing is that we cannot wait to get testing and see how the car performs - and I think everyone is keen to see how we are going to do this season because we have worked really hard. It is a team game, everyone has put a lot of effort in, and we are quite hopeful about it."
