Jenson Button is not giving up on winning a race this season even though he admits his championship aspirations are on hold for another year.

Button has scored just 25 points this season - the same amount that he had after one race in 2012 - and is a distant 10th in the drivers' championship. McLaren has struggled for pace since the start of the year and both cars finished outside the points in Canada, but Button still thinks a win will be possible later in the year.

"I want to do the best I can, and every race I go into I hope to get the maximum out of the car, and I aim to win grands prix this year," he told Press Association Sport. "When it comes to the championship you have to think further ahead because we're so far behind we're not going to win the championship this year. But we can still win grands prix, there is still that possibility and you have to aim for that."

Button spent much of his earlier career at uncompetitive outfits but says it is different at McLaren as he is confident the team will turn things around.

"I'm still much happier being at a team like McLaren than a smaller team when you have issues like this," he added. "I'm still at a great team, probably the best team to try and fight their way out of this kind of situation. It will happen. We still have a lot of talented people on this team, people that will find answers, find a way back to the front, and then it will be so much sweeter when it does happen."
