McLaren has been testing a new aerodynamic package at Idiada ahead of the British Grand Prix.

The running has come the day managing director Jonathan Neale confirmed the next three races would be decisive in whether the team continues to develop its 2013 car, and Neale told a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in that the early indications are that the running has been successful.

"The only issue with our car is that we lack downforce and that's what we are trying to create at the moment," Neale said. "We are in Idiada at the moment; I spoke to the guys at lunchtime today, the weather has been kind to us so we've had a good morning's running and it looks set for a productive afternoon. We've got a range of upgrades for the weekend but we're there not just testing parts but testing some fundamental understanding issues as well.

"So we'll wait and see until Friday afternoon at Silverstone what remains on the car for Saturday to know how successful it has been, but we won't know until about 6 o'clock this evening finally what the package that we take is."
