McLaren is happy to wait for Peter Prodromou to complete his contract with Red Bull before joining the team.

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh confirmed in Japan that Prodromou would be returning to the team, with his contract at Red Bull set to expire in 2015. Although McLaren released Paddy Lowe to join Mercedes early this year, Christian Horner said Red Bull would not be doing similar with Prodromou and McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale said the team was willing to wait.

"Peter's a great guy and he's an important part of their operation," Neale said. "I can't see any incentive for Red Bull to release him early. We'd be very happy to have him here starting tomorrow morning but we fully respect Red Bull's position; as we do when we're recruiting anybody from another organisation. They know that, we understand the position with Red Bull and we fully respect Christian's position. Peter's a key part of their operation at the moment, we look forward to welcoming him here."

Asked if there was any negotiation between the teams, Neale said there wasn't but didn't rule out Red Bull changing its mind.

"Who knows what will happen over the course of a year, but as I say it's entirely at Red Bull's gift. It's for them to decide, it's not for us, not for McLaren to decide that."
