Jenson Button says he disagrees with Ron Dennis' comments that he needs to work harder to consistently beat Kevin Magnussen and is still refusing to comment on his future at McLaren.

Earlier this week McLaren boss Dennis said Magnussen's form in 2014 should be a "wake-up call" for Button, who is just 14 points ahead of his team-mate, adding that as a former world champion he should be consistently beating the rookie. Button thinks Dennis' comments come from the frustrating position McLaren finds itself in but believes the blame does not lie solely at one person's feet.

"I think Ron's practising to be a motivational speaker maybe," Button said when asked his opinion. "I think when you're in the position we've been in for the last 18 months it's not easy, for anyone within the team its very difficult. So no, I think we all need to work harder as a team. I don't think we need to be pointing the finger at any individual within the team, I think we've got ourselves into this situation and we've got to fight our way out.

"I don't do things in half measures. I have the experience in Formula One to know you have to give 100% and I always do every time I'm in the paddock, at the factory, on the phone to my engineers - everything is 100%. And that's it."

Rumours are already circulating that McLaren hopes to sign a big-name driver for the start of its partnership with Honda next season, with Fernando Alonso and even Lewis Hamilton linked. Button's contract is up at the end of the year, though McLaren has an option to extend the deal, but the 2009 world champion is remaining tight-lipped on the subject.

"We will see! For me right now it's about doing the best job I can. The whole team are working every day to do a better job. We are not where we want to be, we are not where McLaren is used to being - and we know that, so we are working vey hard. But in terms of the future that's something I can't discuss right now."
