Sir Stirling Moss thinks Jenson Button should not have been made to wait as long as he has to learn whether he will remain in Formula One with McLaren next year.

McLaren has yet to announce its 2015 driver line-up, but with Fernando Alonso joining the team from Ferrari its management now has to make a straight choice between Button and Kevin Magnussen. However, Moss does not think it is fair to make the 2009 world champion wait on his future.

"I think he's in a very difficult situation which shouldn't have happened, quite frankly," Moss said. "He's one of the best drivers out there in every way and I think it's really a great shame."

Sir Jackie Stewart believes Button has every right to be disappointed if he is not kept on at the team.

"I think everybody is waiting to see how it will go for Jenson; whether he will stay at McLaren or go elsewhere. It will probably not be in Formula One if he's not at McLaren, but he's a very experienced driver and drove some really good races this year. I think he'll be rather disappointed if he doesn't get the seat at McLaren."
