Alonso offers McLaren motivation
Fernando Alonso's arrival at McLaren this year has already been a motivating force, according to senior team members.
Alonso joined McLaren from Ferrari over the winter and took part in his first test of the new Honda-powered MP4-30 last week in Jerez. Although his time in the car was limited to 38 laps over two days, engineering director Matt Morris said Alonso's motivation was high and has inspired the team to work harder.
"Fernando has been itching to get in the car for the last few months and it was a frustrating few days for him," Morris said. "But he's happy and he will push us on as a team and his motivation levels in the garage, the office and the simulator is massively high. Obviously that knocks on to everyone and all of us to push on. I'm really looking forward to this year."
Racing director Eric Boullier said Alonso's presence will ensure the team leaves no stone unturned when it comes to extracting the most from the car.
"Everybody here is really committed and if there is any room for improvement or anything left he is going to pick it up and make sure we are not going to forget to consider it."
