New deal likely for Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is "confident" that he will stay with McLaren beyond the end of his current contract, but wants the team to focus on a better car for 2012.
Hamilton's future became the centre of speculation during the year as Sebastian Vettel ran away with the drivers' championship and Hamilton failed to produce his best performances on a consistent basis. After meeting with Christian Horner in the paddock in Canada, rumours surfaced that he could move to Red bull in the future, but Hamilton said that his commitment to McLaren was never in doubt.
"I'm at a positive place within myself," Hamilton said. "Things are getting better, and I just want to continue on this path because it would be good. I don't think there's any question of my commitment to the team, so there's no real rush to have to do anything. I'll just focus on the year."
The focus on responding to Red Bull's dominant campaign was central to Hamilton's thoughts, but when asked if it was more than likely he would stay with McLaren, Hamilton replied: "Yeah, I do. I'm confident about that.
"Martin has already spoken to me about re-signing, so I know it's there at some point, and I guess at some stage when we have time we'll sit down (to discuss it further). But the most important thing is to focus on the season ahead."
