Button 'gained a lot of confidence' in Valencia

Jenson Button admits that he "gained a lot of confidence" in Valencia that has left him "ready to fight" at the British Grand Prix next weekend.

Having endured a number of difficult races, Button returned to form of sorts with a place in the top ten during qualifying and an eighth place finish in the race. Though not a large points haul, Button was more competitive than he had been in Canada and when asked what the chances were of an all-McLaren front row at Silverstone he said he expected to be strong.

"I've got to pull my finger out first if we're going to get that!" Button said. "But the last race for me I gained a lot of confidence in the car, so I will be arriving at Silverstone confident and ready to fight. It's a circuit that should suit our car, it's quite a fast circuit Silverstone which is good for us, and there's no reason why we can't lock out the front row."

His McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton added that some upgrades planned for the race would hopefully help the team remain competitive after Red Bull made significant progress in Valencia.

"We've got some upgrades coming which is important because the other teams have obviously been making some serious steps forward," Hamilton said. "I think our car doesn't seem to go so well at the lower speed circuits like Valencia, but I think at a higher speed circuit like Silverstone I think we should be competitive there. Trying to look after our tyres is our biggest problem, so hopefully we'll have a bit of a better chance with some upgrades."
