Jenson Button believes Michael Schumacher would never have won seven world titles without a top-flight car.

The former Brawn driver became Britain's tenth world champion in a fairytale season last year, but he insists his victory was a team effort and even the best drivers cannot win a title singlehandedly.

"In Formula One a driver cannot win the championship by himself," he told Spain's Marca. "Michael [Schumacher] or Fernando [Alonso] wouldn't have won by themselves."

Button hit the headlines when he made the switch to join fellow Brit Hamilton at McLaren for the 2010 season. Both are looking to win their second world title and much has been made of the rivalry between the two. Button insists he and the 2008 champion are on an even footing, despite rumblings that he will play second fiddle to Hamilton.

But Button will arrive on the grid with the No. 1 on his car, and he believes the new season will be the most unpredictable yet.

"When I saw the No. 1 on the car I was very excited, I have never led in my career," he said. "We will see the most exicting world championship in the history of F1. Alonso is looking quick and will see whether or not Schumi has a point to prove."
