Nico Rosberg says the aim for Mercedes will be to develop its car throughout the season after admitting the team is in a similar position to last year.

Mercedes started 2012 strongly with Rosberg winning in China and finishing second in Monaco before falling well off the pace by the end of the season. While Rosberg has been full of optimism during this pre-season so far, he admitted that it feels similar to last year but that he was "confident" the team wouldn't suffer a repeat performance.

"Unfortunately, yes!" Rosberg replied when asked if he was as happy as 12 months ago. "Because we did have a rather good, or decent end to winter testing last year but then it didn't go so well at the first two races... quite badly, actually, but I'm confident we can do a bit better."

One area Rosberg feels Mercedes has noticeably progressed over the winter so far is in its reliability.

"I look forward to the last day and try and make the most of that because testing is very limited so never going to be happy that everything is done because that's impossible in this limited time of testing. But it's good; I've got through everything that is important to me. We're on top of all our main reliability issues, we've really improved there and I comfortably got to the end of a kind of race practice today with no problems."
