Michael Schumacher believes Formula One in 2010 is as exciting as it has ever been, despite the season opener in Bahrain being widely criticised as boring.

Schumacher started his F1 career in 1991 but doesn't see how the Bahrain Grand Prix was less interesting than any other year he has raced.

"If a football match is 0-0, is it boring?" he asked. "If a basketball game is 100-100, is it exciting? Formula One is not motorcycle racing, it's not basketball. Formula One has always had less overtaking. The excitement is still there for the fans. Tell me when there has been more overtaking. Formula One has always had this situation."

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso agrees, and after saying F1 should wait before making any radical changes earlier this week, he added that its appeal is more subtle than just on-track overtaking.

"This [sport] is about technique, about how precise everything is in terms of the mechanics, the engineering, everything," he said. "People who want extra show perhaps need to reconsider if they want to watch Formula One."

Robert Kubica also sees no cause for concern after the first race of 2010.

"From a show point of view, I don't think it [Bahrain] was worse than it was last year," he said. "It was the same."
