Nico Rosberg is hoping Mercedes' rivals can make a step up and start providing some competition for his team at this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Mercedes dominated the opening round of the season in Melbourne and are expected to have the upper hand again this weekend. All the signs point towards a repeat of last year when Rosberg was in a two-way fight with team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the title, but Rosberg is hoping for some competition from elsewhere.

"To start off the year with such dominance was just amazing and the team really did an incredible job," he said. "Of course, I'm disappointed not to have repeated my win from 2014 [in Australia] - but Lewis was on top form and it's up to me to find that little bit extra.

"It's all set up to be another great battle between us this year and I'm ready for the fight. Hopefully we will also have some other competitors pushing us as hard as we push each other, as this would be great for the sport."

In the post-race press conference in Australia, third-place Sebastian Vettel managed to talk Rosberg into inviting him to the Mercedes' debrief after Friday practice in Malaysia. But Rosberg insists he is looking forward to having a third driver contributing to the meeting, which is usually top secret.

"I'm also particularly looking forward to welcoming our special guest Mr Vettel to the Friday engineering meeting. I'm sure we will all learn a few interesting things this weekend…"
