Rosberg feeling undervalued at Mercedes

Nico Rosberg does not think he has received the recognition he deserves for dominating his illustrious team-mate Michael Schumacher this season.

So much focus has been given to Schumacher's struggles on his return to the sport and his inability to adapt his driving style to the characteristics of his Mercedes that Rosberg feels his own achievements have been undervalued.

"I don't think my performance is well enough recognised," Rosberg told German weekly Sport Bild.

Rosberg has out-qualified Schumacher in 13 of the 16 races this season and has a massive 68 point margin over the seven-time world champion in the drivers' championship. And while Schumacher's problems have been put down to his difficulties in adapting to Bridgestone's new narrower front tyres and the car's preference for understeer, Rosberg says he has had to cope with exactly the same issues after moving from Williams.

"It's the same for me. Actually I think Michael has been able to adapt his driving style better than I have. Michael has 15 years of experience in Formula One."

Despite Rosberg's comments, Mercedes' competition boss Norbert Haug insists Rosberg's efforts have not been undervalued by the team.

"I think it's absolutely obvious that Nico has so far extracted what was possible from the car," said Haug. "Only on a very few occasions was this not the case. I think he learned a lot with Williams and if you would name one of the top guys that are currently young and experienced in formula one you would certainly mention Nico. So Nico is a very good benchmark for probably everybody in the field."
